1.1 Who and what this covers
This Cookie Policy explains how glomotec uses cookies and similar technologies on glomotec.com, the SIGNAL qualification platform at signal.glomotec.com, and any other module of the platform that loads cookies or comparable storage.
1.2 Relationship to other documents
This Cookie Policy supplements the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. The Privacy Policy explains how we process personal data more generally; this document concentrates on the specific technologies named here. Where there is any conflict between this Cookie Policy and the Privacy Policy on the use of cookies, this Cookie Policy controls.
1.3 Controllers
The data controllers responsible for the processing described here are glomotec (Delaware, USA) and glomotec (England and Wales, Companies House No. 13211798).
“Cookie” means a small text file placed on your device by a website to store information that the site can read on subsequent visits.
“Similar technologies” means local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, web beacons, pixel tags, software development kits, fingerprinting techniques, and other mechanisms that store or read information on your device or that allow you to be recognised across sessions.
“First-party cookie” means a cookie set by the domain you are visiting (glomotec.com or a subdomain).
“Third-party cookie” means a cookie set by a domain other than the one you are visiting.
“Persistent cookie” means a cookie that remains on your device until it expires or is deleted.
“Session cookie” means a cookie that is deleted when you close your browser or end your session.
“Essential cookie” means a cookie that is strictly necessary for the operation of the platform or for a service you have explicitly requested.
“Non-essential cookie” means any cookie or similar technology that is not strictly necessary, including cookies used for analytics, functionality, or marketing.
glomotec uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- To operate the platform. To authenticate you, maintain your session, prevent cross-site request forgery, route traffic, and serve content reliably.
- To remember your preferences. To store your cookie consent choices and any settings you have made on the platform so we do not ask again on every visit.
- To secure the platform. To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- To understand usage in aggregate. To produce aggregated, non-identifying analytics about how the site is used so we can improve it. We use a cookieless analytics provider for this purpose.
- To deliver services you have requested. Where you sign in with a federated authentication provider, the provider may set cookies necessary to complete the sign-in flow.
We do not use cookies or similar technologies for advertising, retargeting, cross-context behavioural advertising, or building advertising profiles of you. We do not sell information collected through cookies.
We classify the technologies on the platform into the four categories below. Only essential technologies load before consent. Every other category requires your active consent through the cookie preferences control or equivalent mechanism.
4.1 Essential (strictly necessary)
These are required for the platform to function and cannot be disabled in our systems. They are typically set in response to actions you take, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. You can configure your browser to block them, but parts of the site will not work.
4.2 Functional
These enable enhanced functionality and personalisation, such as remembering your review progress on a long document, your preferred language, or other interface preferences. If you do not allow these, some or all of these features may not function properly.
4.3 Analytics
These help us understand how visitors use the site so we can measure and improve performance. Our analytics provider, Plausible, does not use cookies; the analytics it produces is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors.
4.4 Marketing
These are used for measurement and the relevance of any future campaigns. We do not currently set marketing cookies on the platform. Where we do in the future, they will only be set after your consent and will be listed in the inventory in Section 5.
The table below lists the specific cookies and similar storage items currently in use. Where a cookie is set by a third party, the third party is identified.
5.1 glomotec.com (this site)
| Name | Category | Purpose | Storage | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| gmt_consent | Essential | Stores your cookie consent choice (essential, analytics, marketing) so we do not ask again on every visit | First-party cookie | 365 days |
| gmt_terms_reviewed_v1 | Functional | Records which sections of the Terms of Use you have marked as reviewed in this browser, on a per-section basis | localStorage (this browser only) | Until you clear it |
| gmt_privacy_reviewed_v1 | Functional | Records which sections of this Privacy Policy you have marked as reviewed in this browser | localStorage (this browser only) | Until you clear it |
| gmt_cookies_reviewed_v1 | Functional | Records which sections of this Cookie Policy you have marked as reviewed in this browser | localStorage (this browser only) | Until you clear it |
5.2 signal.glomotec.com (the SIGNAL qualification platform)
| Name | Category | Purpose | Vendor | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| sb-access-token | Essential | Authentication token for your signed-in session | Supabase, Inc. | Session or up to 1 hour |
| sb-refresh-token | Essential | Refreshes your authentication token without requiring re-login | Supabase, Inc. | 30 days |
| sb-provider-token | Essential | Stores the federated provider token where you signed in via Google OAuth | Supabase, Inc. | Session |
5.3 Federated authentication (Google sign-in)
Where you sign in with Google, Google sets cookies on its own domains (google.com, accounts.google.com) to operate the OAuth flow. These are governed by Google’s privacy policy and terms; we do not control them. The cookies are essential to deliver the sign-in service you have requested.
5.4 Analytics
The platform uses Plausible Analytics (Plausible Insights OÜ, Estonia). Plausible does not use cookies and does not track individual users across sites. The analytics it produces is aggregated and intentionally non-identifying. No consent is required for cookieless analytics in most jurisdictions; where local law requires consent for any non-essential analytics regardless of cookie use, we obtain it before loading the analytics script.
5.5 Anti-abuse and security
Where the platform is fronted by an edge security provider (currently Cloudflare for some surfaces), the provider may set short-lived cookies (such as __cf_bm) for bot management. These are essential to protect the platform and are categorised as such.
5.6 Future additions
We update this inventory whenever we add or change a cookie. Where we add a non-essential cookie, your consent is required before it is set, regardless of category.
The platform sets only the third-party cookies necessary to deliver the services you have requested or to protect the integrity of the platform. The third parties currently involved are:
- Supabase, Inc., authentication infrastructure for SIGNAL and other modules. Cookies set by Supabase to maintain your session are listed in Section 5.2.
- Google, LLC, OAuth authentication where you elect to sign in with Google. Cookies set by Google for the sign-in flow are governed by Google’s policies.
- Cloudflare, Inc., where used in front of platform surfaces, for bot management and edge security.
We do not set third-party advertising, retargeting, social-media tracking, or cross-context behavioural advertising cookies. Where we embed external content (for example a YouTube video or a Vimeo embed), the embed may set cookies on its own domain governed by the provider’s policy. We minimise such embeds and prefer privacy-preserving alternatives where available.
In addition to cookies, the platform uses local storage and session storage on your browser to hold information that does not need to be transmitted with every request. These technologies are not cookies but are subject to the same legal regimes (PECR, ePrivacy Directive, and equivalents) where they store information on your device.
The localStorage items currently in use are listed in Section 5.1. They store your reading progress on long legal documents, exclusively in your browser, and are not transmitted to glomotec servers. You can clear them at any time through your browser’s site data controls.
We do not use IndexedDB, software-development-kit storage, or browser fingerprinting on the public site. Where any future use is added, this section is updated and consent obtained where required.
8.1 Cookie consent banner
The first time you visit the site, a cookie consent banner is presented. The banner allows you to:
- Accept all cookies and similar technologies
- Reject all non-essential cookies
- Open Preferences and select category by category
Your choice is stored in the gmt_consent cookie identified in Section 5.1, so you are not asked again on every visit. We treat acceptance and rejection with equal prominence and do not use design patterns that nudge you toward acceptance.
8.2 Granularity
You can accept or reject each non-essential category independently (Functional, Analytics, Marketing). Essential cookies cannot be disabled because they are necessary for the platform to function.
8.3 Children
The platform is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek consent from children under the age of consent in your jurisdiction (which under PECR and the EU ePrivacy regime is typically 16 or younger if a Member State has set a lower age, and in the United States is 13 under COPPA). See Section 12 for further detail.
8.4 Records of consent
We retain a record of the consent or rejection you have provided, including the version of the policy in force at the time, in order to demonstrate the lawfulness of our processing. The record is itself an essential cookie under PECR and the ePrivacy regime.
You can manage cookies and similar technologies through your browser, in addition to our cookie preferences control. Browser controls let you delete cookies you already have, block cookies before they are set, and configure how cookies behave per site or globally.
The following links open the cookie management documentation for major browsers:
- Google Chrome · support.google.com/chrome
- Apple Safari · support.apple.com/safari
- Mozilla Firefox · support.mozilla.org/firefox
- Microsoft Edge · support.microsoft.com/edge
- Brave · support.brave.com
- Opera · help.opera.com
Blocking essential cookies will impair core features such as sign-in and form submission. Blocking functional cookies may reset your reading progress or interface preferences. Blocking analytics or marketing cookies will not affect your ability to use the platform.
10.1 Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a Do Not Track (DNT) signal in their HTTP requests. There is no consensus standard for how websites should respond to DNT, and the major browser vendors have largely deprecated it. We do not currently change our behaviour in response to DNT signals, because the platform does not engage in cross-site tracking that DNT was designed to address.
10.2 Global Privacy Control
The Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal is a successor to DNT designed to convey a clear opt-out preference. Where applicable law (including the California Privacy Rights Act and several other US state privacy laws) requires us to honour GPC as an opt-out of sale or sharing, we do so. We do not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising in any case, but where you transmit GPC we treat the signal as a confirmation of that position.
10.3 Other signals
Where future technical mechanisms become standards for conveying privacy preferences (for example through the W3C Privacy Community Group), we will assess and adopt them where appropriate.
11.1 Cookie preferences control
You can change your consent at any time by opening the cookie preferences control on the site. The control allows you to update your selection at the category level. Changes take effect immediately.
11.2 Clear cookies in your browser
Clearing cookies for glomotec.com or signal.glomotec.com in your browser will remove the consent record we hold (the gmt_consent cookie). On your next visit, the consent banner will be shown again.
11.3 Withdrawal in writing
You may also withdraw consent or restrict processing by writing to privacy@glomotec.com. We respond within thirty (30) days in accordance with Section 15 of the Privacy Policy.
11.4 Effect of withdrawal
Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. After withdrawal, we cease the processing in question for the future, except where another lawful basis (including legal obligation, legitimate interests, or contract performance) applies.
The platform is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek consent from any individual under the age of eighteen, or such higher age as is set by the law of your jurisdiction.
The age at which a child can give valid consent for the use of cookies and similar technologies under the EU ePrivacy regime and the EU GDPR varies by Member State. The default under Article 8 of the EU GDPR is sixteen, although Member States may lower it to no less than thirteen. Under the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the threshold is thirteen. Under the United Kingdom GDPR, the threshold is thirteen.
If you are below the relevant age, do not access the platform, do not register, and do not submit any information. If we become aware that we have collected information from a person below the relevant age without proper authorisation, we will delete the information without undue delay.
13.1 United Kingdom (PECR)
The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR) apply. Non-essential cookies and similar technologies are set only after your consent.
13.2 European Union (ePrivacy Directive)
The ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC) and its national implementations apply. Non-essential cookies are set only after your consent. Where the implementing law of your Member State requires additional disclosure or consent procedures, those requirements apply.
13.3 United Arab Emirates (PDPL)
The UAE PDPL applies to personal data processed through cookies. Where consent is required, we obtain it. Where the platform is accessed from the Dubai International Financial Centre or the Abu Dhabi Global Market, the data protection laws of those zones supplement the PDPL.
13.4 California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the rights described in Section 22 of the Privacy Policy, including the right to opt out of sale and sharing. We honour Global Privacy Control as an opt-out signal.
13.5 Other jurisdictions
Where the law of your jurisdiction grants you additional rights or requires additional consent procedures for cookies, we comply.
14.1 Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may amend this Cookie Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes in technology, in our use of cookies, in applicable law, or in the requirements of supervisory authorities. The current version is identified at the top of this page. Where a change is material, we will reset the consent banner so that you have an opportunity to review and consent to the updated practices.
